Claudio Úbeda will continue to be Boca coach
After a month of uncertainty as rumors outweighed fans’ concerns and silence seemed to mean something else, Boca confirmed Claudio Úbeda as the team’s coach for 2026.
Although the coach’s contract was valid until June next year, the manager and former player Marcelo Delgado assured that after the defeat against the “Academy” they would “check if he is still at the club”.
The coach and former Racing player appeared to have put Boca on the right track in the second half of the year as they were the undisputed leaders of Group A of the Clausura tournament and won decisively against River in the Superclásico at La Bombonera Stadium.
However, the game against the Academy was a turning point, as the team could not keep up, was eliminated by Adrián Martínez’s only goal and the coach was at the center of the storm with the decision to replace Exequiel Zeballos, one of the most incisive players.
But yesterday all rumors were put to rest: Miguel Ángel Russo’s former field assistant will manage Boca’s first team in 2026, where he will compete on three fronts: Copa Libertadores, Torneo Apertura and Copa Argentina.
The Santa Fe man left the field assistant position and took over as Boca’s coach on October 8, following the death of Russo, who was then technical director of Xeneize.
Since then, Úbeda has refereed eight games against Boca, winning six and losing only two. In addition, he managed to qualify Xeneize for the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
