Economist Gonzalo Bernardos is well known for his appearances on television and social media. In recent times, Bernardos has become a strong advocate of buying a housebecause it is for him a guarantee for the future.
In an intervention in the program laSexta XplicaBernardos warns that “pensions of the future will not be as generous as they are today, and the best retirement plan “What you can have is a house.”
The problem is that prices are skyrocketing, but that does not discourage the economics professor from the University of Barcelona: “Two minimum wages, in a large part of Spain, I can buy a housebecause they pay less in mortgages than in rent,” he says.
Of course, the expert explains that “the problem of these people is that they do not have prior savings. Because we always think of Barcelona and Madrid, but there are plenty of accommodations in Spain for 120,000 euros, 100,000 and up to 80,000. And in Zafra, for 30,000,” he says.
In another recent intervention, on the Finec Talks podcast, Bernardos insisted on the same idea: he says that those who want to buy a house should do it quickly, but he admits to the interviewer that “It would have been better last year.”
“I advise my daughter to buy one, because if you don’t buy it nowyou’re going to have to pay a lot more money and we’ll see if you can buy it… Hey, and the good ones, I don’t even have time to go see them: they sell themselves,” added Professor Bernardos.
