The InCor (Instituto do Coração do Hospital das Clínicas) in São Paulo will receive R$330,000 in the form of parliamentary amendments to study the effect of medical cannabis on patients suffering from heart failure and requiring palliative care.
The amendments come from state deputies Eduardo Suplicy (PT) and Caio França (PSB), who will also allocate public resources to two town halls and three federal universities for research and treatment programs related to cannabis.
A total of eight projects were selected in an opinion in which substantive initiatives were presented. The sums of the two deputies, combined, reach R$1.25 million.
The town hall of Pereira Barreto (635 km from the capital) will receive R$100,000 to implement a protocol that provides for the supply and monitoring of cannabis-based therapies in the public health network.
In the city of Peruíbe (140 km from the capital), the budget, also worth R$100,000, will be used to train professionals and provide access to cannabis treatment to the local population.
UFSCar (Federal University of São Carlos) and the Ilha Solteira and Botucatu units of Unesp (Paulista State University) will also receive amendments.
