Housing prices in the Belém metropolitan area increased by 178.93% in November compared to October, the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) reported this Wednesday (10).
According to the organization, this shortage is a reflection of demand during COP30, the United Nations conference on climate change. The event took place in the capital of Pará last month.
With the jump in November, cumulative housing inflation in Belém reached 233.14% in 12 months.
IBGE data is part of the calculation of the country’s official price index, the IPCA (Broad National Consumer Price Index).
On average in Brazil, the cost of housing increased by 4.09% in November and by 12.37% over the last 12 months.
THE PLANE TICKET IS ALSO ADVANCED
Another service that had an impact on inflation in Belém was that of plane tickets. Airline ticket prices increased by 25.32% in November, more than double the increase recorded in Brazil (11.9%).
According to Fernando Gonçalves, director of the IPCA, the holding of COP30 could also have put pressure on ticket prices.
“The end of the year comes and, usually, in November air fares increase. There are public holidays. A seasonal increase in air fares begins,” said the technician analyzing the national context.
