The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued a red alert for heat waves in the South, the Center-West and mainly the South-East. High temperatures will affect a large part of the country until next Monday (29/12)
The climate agency’s red alert means “great danger”. This indicates a situation of exceptional thermal intensity, with a risk for physical integrity and human life.
Regions affected by climate instability include: Santa Catarina, Paraná (South); Mato Grosso do Sul (Central-West), Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo and the entire state of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (South-East).
The heatwave occurs because regions must have a temperature 5ºC above average for a period of more than five days, according to Inmet.
Currently, the regions indicated by the meteorological body with red alert, exceed the temperature of 30ºC, considering that RJ is in the lead, with 39ºC this Friday morning (26/12).
Care during red alert
It is necessary to take measures to protect yourself from the heat and prevent health problems such as dehydration, heat stroke and heat illnesses.

Hydration is essential in times of drought and extreme heat. It is recommended that citizens significantly increase their water intake even before feeling thirsty, in addition to consuming light and fresh foods.
It is also recommended to wear light, cool clothing, use sunscreen, and stay in cool, humidified environments to ease hot flashes.
