The Governor of Minas Gerais, Romeo Zema (Novo) submitted a statement to the CPMI at the INSS asking to reject the requests of Federal Representative Rogério Correia (PT), requesting that the banking and tax secrecy of Zema’s company Crédito, Financiamento e Investimento – linked to the politician’s family – be broken and the governor be summoned to testify. The document was sent to the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Carlos Viana (Podemos).
Correa submitted two requests requesting the preparation of detailed reports on the financial transactions of Zema Crédito and the breach of company confidentiality, in the period from January 1, 2015 to November 25, 2025, in addition to summoning Romeo Zema to explain the role of the institution in providing credit to pensioners and pensioners of INSS.

In the statement submitted to the commission, Zima’s defense asserts that the requests are politically motivated and states that the governor has not been part of the company’s management since October 22, 2018. According to the lawyers, he officially left the company on that date, according to the record of minutes of the extraordinary general meeting filed with the Minas Gerais Trade Council.
The defense adds that since January 1, 2019, Zima has held exclusively the position of governor and, therefore, has no operational information about the performance of the financial institution during the period under investigation. The lawyers also state that throughout the period covered by the breach of confidentiality request, the company was under the management of legal directors who had no family ties to the head of the executive authority of the state of Minas Gerais.
The petition also indicates that the current management structure of Zema Crédito was determined at a meeting held on August 24, 2024. On that occasion, a board of directors was elected consisting of the CEO, the Managing Director of Finance and the Director of Risk and Compliance, with a mandate until September 2027, according to the records of the Commercial Council and Central Bank documents.
Given these arguments, the defense contends that any clarifications should be sought from the company’s current directors, not the governor. In the end, he formally requested that Romeo Zema’s summons be rejected by the INSS CPMI.
The INSS CPMI is scheduled this Thursday (12/4) to analyze the Zema subpoena and break the financial and banking secrecy of the Zema Crédito.
