Colorado exercises purchase option, pays $4 million and guarantees Beira-Rio player
Internacional has decided to exercise the purchase option and confirmed the definitive acquisition of Colombian striker Johan Carbonero, from Racing, originally from Argentina. The information was confirmed by journalist César Luis Merlo.
To finalize the deal, Inter will invest $4 million (around R$22 million at current prices) for 75% of the player’s economic rights.
The new contract will be valid until the end of 2027, guaranteeing Colorado the maintenance of one of the most appreciated names in the team for the continuation of the sporting project.
On loan to Inter, Carbonero established himself as an important player throughout the season and attracted interest from other Brazilian football clubs. One of the competitors paying attention to the situation was Botafogo. The Colorado board of directors, however, anticipated and officially informed Racing of the purchase decision.
Internally, the assessment is that the investment presents potential for sporting and financial returns. At 26 years old, Carbonero is considered an appreciating player, with room for growth and possible future negotiations, particularly with the European market or other emerging leagues.
Another factor that weighs on the forward’s projection is the international situation. Luis Díaz’s reserve in the Colombian national team, Carbonero has already started to earn space at La Tri. In 2025, he was called up three times, played in two matches and scored two goals, a performance that put him on the radar of the technical committee ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
On the pitch, the Colombian played an important role in Inter’s campaign in the 2025 season. Playing alongside Alan Patrick, he was one of the main names in the attacking sector. In total, he played 38 matches, scored eight times and contributed two assists, proving decisive in important clashes on the national and continental calendar.
