Two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter died this Saturday (12/13/2025) in an “ambush carried out by a lone gunman of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria,” said a statement from the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), which reported that three other soldiers were injured and the attacker was killed.
As Sean Parnell, the Pentagon’s chief spokesman, detailed on his networks, the attack occurred while the soldiers were holding a meeting with local leaders. “Their mission was to support ongoing counterterrorism and counter-ISIS operations in the region,” he wrote in X.
