
Vehicle and merchandise thefts decreased between January and November this year in Rio state, according to figures released Friday by the Public Security Institute (ISP). Reports of cell phone thefts increased during the period, maintaining the trend they had had throughout the year. Intentional homicides also increased during the period. There were 21,579 incidents between January and November 2025, compared to 28,021 in the same months last year. Cargo thefts also saw a decrease: there were 2,631 cases from January to November this year, compared to 2,950 during the same period in 2024, representing a drop of 11%. Meanwhile, cell phone theft maintained the trend observed throughout the year and increased by 21% between January and November of this year: there were 23,656 crime registrations, compared to 19,521 in the same period of 2024. Intentional homicides saw a slight increase of 1%, with 2,669 victims recorded in the 11 months of 2025, 38 more than the 2,631 people killed during the same period last year. Rifle seizures increase According to ISP data, between January and November, civil and military police seized 848 rifles, an average of one weapon every ten hours. Compared to the same period in 2024, there has been an increase of 23.4%. This number is the highest in the historical series and exceeded, until November, the total number of seizures last year.
