Today, Tuesday, the Israeli army received unspecified “finds” in the Gaza Strip, according to what was confirmed by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but no details are yet available about whether these are the remains of another person kidnapped during the attacks of October 7, 2023.
Netanyahu’s office said: “Israel received, through the Red Cross, the results that were delivered to members of the Israeli army and the Internal Security Service inside the Gaza Strip, where a military ceremony will be held with the participation of the military rabbi,” who stated that they would later be transferred to Israel for a forensic examination.
He stressed that “as soon as the identification process is completed, an official notification will be sent to the family of the two hostages,” before adding that the Directorate of Prisoners and Missing Persons is in constant contact with the family of the two slain hostages. He concluded, “Efforts to achieve the return of the hostages are still continuing and will not stop until the last hostage returns.”
Netanyahu referred to the families of the two hostages, whose bodies remain unidentified in Gaza before they were handed over by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), within the framework of the agreement reached last October to implement the first phase of the American proposal for the future of the Strip.
But Hamas has not yet officially confirmed that it has found the remains of either of these hostages, as it has done so far in preparation for the ceremony of handing them over to the International Committee of the Red Cross for transfer to Israel.
The implementation of this agreement included the ceasefire that entered into force on October 10, the release of the 20 hostages who were still alive, and the handover of 30 of the deceased hostages. In addition, Israel released nearly 2,000 Palestinians who had been in its prisons, and handed over nearly 350 bodies of Palestinians it had held since the attacks and subsequent assault on Gaza.
