Italica, the Seville site where the emperors Trajan and Hadrian were born

A few minutes from Seville, in the town of Santiponce, one of the most important Roman sites on the Iberian Peninsula is preserved: Itálica. A key city of the High Empire, cradle of the emperors Trajan and Hadrian, it still retains today part of its urban layout, exceptional mosaics and one of the largest amphitheaters built by Rome.

The visit is surprising as the space remains easily recognizable. Between straight streets, remains of the sewer system, spacious houses and hot springs, we can clearly see how the city functioned in its greatest splendor. And although a good part remains buried under the current commune of Santiponce, the excavated area is large enough to be explored with the naked eye and get a good idea of the whole.
