The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) informed the Metropolises, this Tuesday (23/12), which has already started the process to request the extradition of former federal deputy Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ) from the United States.
“Requesting a judicial decision, Itamaraty has already started the extradition request procedures,” informed the MRE.
Ramagem has been in the United States since September this year, after fleeing Brazil through the border with Guyana, in Bonfim, municipality of Roraima. The former parliamentarian was sentenced to 16 years and one month in prison for participation in the putsch plot, for three of the five crimes charged by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
It is up to Itamaraty to sue the United States so that the extradition can take place. The decision came from Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), on December 15, who referred the matter to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJ-SP), which, in turn, sent the order to the MRE.

With the revocation, Moraes reopens the process and Ramagem could benefit from an extended sentence
This Monday (12/22), the MJSP responded to Moraes who had already transmitted, last week, the decision on the extradition request to the USA to Itamaraty.
Ramagem’s mandate as a federal deputy was revoked by the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies on Thursday (18/12). The reason was the conviction of the STF in the investigation into the coup attempt.
