Things are not going well for Porsche. In the eyes of fans, the German brand is still on the Olympus of motorsport, but that is not enough to satisfy those who sign the checks, that is to say the managers of the Volkswagen group.
By the end of last year, warnings had already been issued about the difficult situation facing Porsche, with several months of accumulated global sales losses putting 8,000 jobs at risk.
At that time, the reason for the poor sales figures was the transition to electric cars, which has been a nightmare for the vast majority of brands, including Porsche. Throughout 2025, the situation has not improved for the Stuttgart company; in fact, they have gotten worse, as the brand itself has just reported.
Stopping sales of the combustion-powered Porsche Macan and the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman didn’t help at all, as those three models were particularly relevant to the company, especially the Macan, which was the goose that laid the golden eggs for a decade and whose numbers were infinitely better than those recorded by the new all-electric Porsche Macan.
The fact is that people don’t want electric Porsches. This is why the brand had to backtrack, and although its plans were for the next Boxster and Cayman to be fully electric, reality forced Porsche to change its plans, once again deciding to reconsider the new gasoline engine models.
