The leader of the PSOE in Extremadura, Miguel Angel Gallardoexpressed that the results of his party in the regional elections were “bad, “very bad” after losing 10 seats and obtaining only 18 deputies. Despite this, he did not resign from his position and announced that The regional executive demanded this Monday to analyze the results.
“The result of the Socialist Party This is very bad and I emphasize it without palliatives. I think that one way to be fair to reality and also to have one’s feet on the ground is to stand out when the results are unfavorable,” the socialist leader stressed during a press conference. When asked if he was considering resigning after this result, Gallardo avoided answering and declared that what worries him “the least” in this situation “is his political future.”
“What concerns me most is that the PSOE makes the best decision. This is a question that we will talk about from tomorrow,” he added. The socialist leader assured, emphasizing that for this Monday he has summoned the Regional Executive of the PSOE in Extremadura. “There we can analyze the results,” he said simply.
During his appearance, Gallardo also emphasized that the elections They only served to “make Vox grow” and this was the “failure” of the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and of his party’s candidate in these elections, María Guardiola, after obtaining 29 seats, one more compared to 2023 and far from the 33 that the Popular Party wanted to obtain an absolute majority.
“The question tonight is what these elections were for. Of course, Guardiola called them to have an absolute majority, he invented the question of the budget and did not want to negotiate the budgets but rather he rushed these elections to make an experiment of them. Today, Extremadura is experiencing greater blockade and greater instability. What has happened is a growth of the extreme right and therefore a greater blockade,” added Miguel Ángel Gallardo.
“And this greater dependence on the far right will lead to greater extremism in the region. Feijóo and Guardiola’s experiment under this lie of budgets or elections has failed. This did not help them to have a majority that allows them to govern and the only thing it allowed was to make Vox grow,” he added.
Furthermore, Gallardo highlighted his criticism of the PP, saying that with the current results, “we do not know if there will be a government in Extremadura” and stressed that the blockade situation that already existed will continue from this day on: “They made public opinion understand that the blockade was not a consequence of their ability to dialogue but rather that the parties were responsible. “I hope that now you will not blame the citizens for the blockade situation that has occurred in Extremadura from this evening and that will generate greater radicalism in this region.”
The PSOE leader of Extremadura also thanked all citizens during his appearance “who have placed their trust in these elections”. “It is very important to highlight the hundreds of people who voted for us and that is why I want to express my deep gratitude to them, as well as to the colleagues who gave the best of themselves in difficult conditions,” he stressed.
