A few months ago we learned of the existence of a historic trial against the influence of Artificial intelligence. And, given the attack on copyright that the Generative AI of Halfway (allowing its users to create content with characters licensed from film companies), we learned of the existence of an agreement concluded by illustrious majors who confronted this company. The request was, so to speak, motivated by Warner Bros., Universal Pictures And The Walt Disney Company.
It seemed that major Hollywood companies were taking sides, but it turned out that this move did not involve a militant rejection to Disney’s AI. Quite the contrary.
As we learned in November, the Maison de la Souris was studying ways to integrate AI into its production, particularly in streaming which represents Disney+. And weeks later, we know what that translated into: a contract The Walt Disney Company with OpenAI. That is to say the most dynamic seal of generative AI, controlled by Sam Altman. The two companies have entered into a three-year licensing agreement.
The agreement concerns Images Sora and ChatGPTthe two image generation applications that OpenAI has. It is assumed that from 2026, Sora could generate short videos for social networks available to users, being able to share rooms with more than 200 characters from the career of Disney, Marvel, Pixar And Star Wars. These will be pieces, as planned a few weeks ago, which could be broadcast on Disney+.
With this commitment, Disney is campaigning for responsible use of AI that protects copyright, in opposition to the practices of labels like Midjourney. Thus, the study carried out by Bob Iger becomes an important client of OpenAI, and makes ChatGPT and all its derivatives available to its collaborators. This will also involve an investment of 1 billion dollars by Disney into the coffers of OpenAI, and its transformation into Sora’s first major partner.
Responsible AI?
The deal is not meant to be about Disney’s production itself, but rather its social media coverage and services like Disney+. Sora and ChatGPT could then generate, from a few words from each user, Full images in seconds from the Disney IP. The deal does not include the voices or images of famous actors.
“THE technological innovation has continually shaped entertainment, delivering new ways to create and share beautiful stories with the world,” Iger said shortly after the deal was announced. “The rapid advancements in artificial intelligence mark an important moment for our industry, and through this collaboration with OpenAI, we will expand thoughtfully and responsibly the reach of our storytelling through generative AI, while respecting and protecting creators and their works.
“Bringing together iconic Disney stories and characters with OpenAI’s innovative technology directly engages imagination and creativity. in the hands of Disney fans in a way never before, giving them richer, more personal ways to connect with the Disney characters and stories they love so much,” he concludes.
