It’s New Year’s Eve in New Zealand! The country is the second in Oceania to celebrate the arrival of 2026. The first was Kiribati, a country made up of 33 Pacific islands, at 7 a.m. (Brasilia time) this Wednesday.

The second turn occurred at 7:15 a.m., in the Chatham Islands, off the east coast of New Zealand. By 8 a.m., it was already party time in most of the country. In Auckland, the fireworks lasted five minutes, with more than 500 kilograms of pyrotechnics launched from the Sky Tower. Before midnight, images of special moments from 2025 — sent by citizens — were projected onto the building structure.
The country was followed by the island chain of Tokelau, Samoa and Tonga, who celebrated the new year at 8am.
There are 39 time zones on the planet, with differences ranging from 15 or 30 minutes to 12 hours. In practice, this means that New Year’s Eve parties will last more than 26 hours.
