During his first experience against the world number 1, João Fonseca organized a high-level duel with Carlos Alcaraz on the night of Monday 8, at Miami Invitational 2025. In a particular format, the young Brazilian showed personality, but ended up being beaten 2 sets to 1 (5/7, 2/6 and 8/10).
The first set was marked by the balance and courage of Fonseca, who showed consistency from the first points and did not allow himself to be intimidated by the leader of the ranking. The Brazilian came to take the advantage at several moments, exploring his serve well and accelerating with his forehand. The Spaniard even reacted to reduce it to 5-2, but Fonseca closed the partial at 6-2 and took the decision in the super tie-break.
