The President of Aragon, Jorge Azconwill appear this Monday at a press conference to formalize the electoral progress in the community, expected for February 8.
After the failure of Azcón’s negotiations with Vox to achieve the Aragon 2026 budget, The president called the media at 11:30 a.m. after the extraordinary meeting of the Government Council which will approve the decree of dissolution of the Cortés and the electoral summons, which will be published on Tuesday in the Official Gazette of Aragon (BOA).
The elections, according to the electoral law, must take place 54 days after the entry into force of the decree, i.e. February 8.
The president has so far refused to confirm the date of the elections and summoned the press to announce his decision after a weekend of reflection.
Aragon will live its first election preview and the parties with parliamentary representation – PP, PSOE, Vox, CHA, Aragón Teruel Existen, Podemos, IU and PAR – will have to prepare a campaign in record time, with Christmas in between, and close the candidacies.
Azcón will lead the PP with the ambition of not depending on Vox, and the risk that the balance of forces in the Cortes is maintained, in competition with the Minister of Education and General Secretary of the Aragonese Socialists, Pilar Alegría, who will aspire to the presidency of Aragon, barring any surprises during the primaries that the party must convene.
