The Mayor of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo, yesterday presented the Poetry and Novel Prizes of the City of Salamanca corresponding to the year 2025, to the writer José Antonio López Nevot for his novel ‘Leonor y los virreyes’ and to Mercedes Escolano López for the collection of poems ‘Sol … and the shadow.
Also present at the event were Asunción Escribano, representing the Poetry Prize Jury, and José Antonio Cordón, representing the Novel Jury. As well as the editor of the Novel Prize, Eduardo Riestra, and the editor of the Poetry Prize, Jesús Egido.
In this edition of the Novel Prize, the XIX, a total of 599 novels were received, the majority from authors residing in Spain (346) and the rest come from authors residing in 30 countries, among which Argentina (94), Colombia (38), Mexico (19), Venezuela (18), United States and Chile (ten) stand out.
The Novel Prize Jury, which met on September 24, was chaired by Luis Alberto de Cuenca and included Emilio Pascual, José Antonio Cordón, Carmen Posadas, Celia Aramburu and Eduardo Riestra.
The mayor presented the winner with a prize of 15,000 euros. In addition, this competition includes the publication and distribution of the winning work by the publishing house Ediciones del Viento.
For its part, in the XXVIII edition of the Ciudad de Salamanca Poetry Prize, 868 collections of poems were received from 30 countries, among which stand out: Spain (517), Argentina (87), Colombia (58), Mexico (34), Cuba (26), Chile (20), Peru (18), Venezuela (12) and the United States (ten).
The jury also met on September 24, it was chaired by Antonio Colinas and included Asunción Escribano, César Antonio Molina, Fermín Herrero, José Luis Puerto, Juan Antonio González Iglesias and Jesús Egido.
The mayor awarded the winner of this edition a prize of 8,000 euros. The publishing and distribution of the winning work was carried out by the Reino de Cordelia publishing house.
