The mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, announced this Friday that he would propose to the plenary session the awarding of the City Medal to Olympic rider Luis Astolfias “one of the greatest athletes that Seville has produced in its history and who reached … a step within reach of only the best, participation in four Olympic Games.
Already on November 9, Luis Astolfi received a moving tribute to Real Club Pinedawhere the Seville City Council and the Municipal Sports Institute wanted to recognize his exemplary career, as part of the history of Spanish sport.
José Luis Sanz made this announcement to the runner during an event held at the Real Club Pineda. In this sense, he stressed that “with this recognition, Seville settles itsan unpaid debt with Luis Astolfi, one of the greatest sporting figures that Seville has produced in its history and this brought the name of our city to the four corners of the world.
The councilor stressed that Luis Astolfi is considered a master of horse riding, while adding that “he has achieved something that is only within the reach of the greatest, by making the difficult appear easy. And he also does it by winning the affection and admiration of everyone, because If Luis is a great driver, he is an even better person.because, as his colleagues and friends say, throughout his life he was always ready to help everyone.
Luis Astolfi Pérez de Guzmán was born in Seville in 1959 and at the age of 11 he started riding horses at the Real Club Pineda de Seville. At 19 he took the plunge international competitionswinning the bronze medal at the University Championship in 1979 and second place at the University World Cup in 1980 and 1982.
In his four Olympic Games (Los Angeles 84, Seoul 88, Barcelona 92 and Sydney 2000), he graduated twice, in Barcelona where he finished fourth and in Los Angeles, seventh, both in the team show jumping event. In addition, He was Absolute Champion of Spaintriple winner of the International King’s Cup in more than 400 national competitions and 100 international competitions.
