Jota.pê, CCPX, Samba Day and more: what to do in SP on the weekend

Sao Paulo hosts Beabá do Sertão on Saturday (6/12). The festival dedicated to forró will include performances by Mestrinho with Jota.pê (Featured image), Forroçacana, Rastapé, Bicho de Pé, Trio Xamego and others.

The event, which promises to be a major celebration of northeastern culture, will be held at the Expo Barra Funda, west of the capital. Visitors will be invited to dance, sing and experience music born in the outback.

João Suplici sings Chico Buarque

This Friday (5/12), the Teatro Sergio Cardoso hosts the show in which João Sublici sings Chico Buarque. The show celebrates the 80th anniversary of the birth of Chico Buarque, one of the biggest names in Brazilian music, with interpretations featuring the voice and guitar of João Suplici.

Between one song and another, João shares curiosities and stories about Chico and his works, making the experience richer and more emotional for the audience. In the show, he pays tribute to Chico Buarque with respect and identity, reaffirming his connection to Brazilian music.

Mapping the pampas

In celebration of National Samba Day, celebrated on December 2, the Black Initiative, through the Cartografias de Bamba project, joins Samporbano for a fantastic samba episode in São Paulo. The event will include real-time graffiti, conversation circles, Cine Gira Bandeira, chatting about samba de bandeira traditions and performances.

Throughout the day, from 12 noon, a gastronomic festival and creative economy fair will be open, with food stalls and snacks from bars and traders in the area, as well as the sale of various products.

CCXP

The Comic Con Experience (CCXP) is the world’s largest pop culture festival, and this weekend it arrives in São Paulo. Among the highlights of the program are Fernanda Montenegro, Johnny Massaro, Bruna Marquezine, Timothée Chalamet, and many others.

The Government of São Paulo, through the Secretariat of Culture, Economy and Creative Industry, is bringing this event an immersive and interactive experience that combines theatre, technology and science fiction narrative. Inspired by old cafes and the atmosphere of science fiction classics, the pavilion hides the most interesting secret of the conference: the “Time Capsule”.

MUM at Pinacoteca

In an unprecedented way, the Mocidade Unida da Mooca (MUM) will officially announce the costumes for its 2026 Carnival parade on Saturday at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo. The event will be attended by all sectors of the school, leaders of the Gelides Institute and honorees of the conspiracy – including Sule Carneiro, Nielza Arasi and Rosanna Paulino.

The pocket show and fashion promotion is part of the commemorative program for the 120th anniversary of Pinacoteca and is in line with the “Carnival Action” exhibition, which opened on November 8 and continues until April 12.

From book to museum

This Sunday (7/12) is the last day to see the exhibition From Book to Museum, a partnership between the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in São Paulo and the Mario de Andrade Library.

The exhibition mainly brings together works from the 1940s and 1950s, a period when modern art was gaining ground in Brazil and spaces dedicated to its dissemination emerged. Among the most notable are rare and essential books such as Jazz by Henri Matisse and Le Cirque by Fernand Léger, which brought Brazilian artists and scholars closer to European modernism.

The Great Occupation of Othello

This Saturday Ocupação Grande Othelo premieres at Itaú Culture. Celebrating the 110th anniversary of the birth of this famous artist who contributed to theatre, cinema, literature and music, and paved the way for African-Brazilian artists on the country’s cultural scene, the exhibition includes more than 160 pieces of art.

The exhibition space displays drafts or completed poems, original music collections from the 1940s, manuscripts, objects, letters, photographs, clothing, his diaries and other personal notebooks, historical documents, and the São Paulo citizen’s diploma and awards. There are also books, tangible objects and video testimonials.

134 years on Avenida Paulista

In an early celebration of the 134th anniversary of Avenida Paulista, Paulista Cultural Company is promoting another edition of the program exchange event at seven institutions. This year, Casa das Rozas is hosting Japan House São Paulo; The Visp Cultural Center includes Itau Cultural Centre; IMS Paulista accommodates the Fiesp Cultural Center. Itaú presents cultural company IMS Paulista; Hosted by Japan House Sesc Avenida Paulista; MASP covers Casa das Rosas. Cesc Avenida Paulista receives MASP.

The program will feature storytelling at Vão Livre at MASP, an activity at IMS Paulista, a painting and music workshop at Sesc, a mask activity at Itaú Culture, a performance at FIESP, poetry with Japanese brushes at Casa das Rosas and watercolor postcards at Japan House.

Siricotico in: The Adventures of Menina Flor and the Sugar Doll

Trupe Trupé presents the show “Siricutico em: Aventuras da Menina Flor ea Doll Açucena” at the Cultural Center of São Paulo (CCSP) on Sunday.

The show is a musical theater with slapstick, interactivity and an original soundtrack by Felipe Edmo (founder of Trupe Trupé) and Paolo Tatet (of Palavra Cantada), who is also the musical director. The main focus of the topic is play, salvaging the value of toys and encouraging the invention of new games.
