Mauricio Kubruslyaged 80, was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia Hospital in Itabuna, Bahia, after suffering a domestic accident. The journalist has lived in the area since 2018, when he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
He was born in Rio de Janeiro, but lives in a coastal community alongside his wife, Beatriz Goulart, who is the only person whose name he still recognizes, according to previous family reports.
According to information provided by the hospital, the communicator was transported this Sunday 14 to intensive care, where he underwent medical intervention to drain a hematoma. So far, no updates or new details regarding his health have been shared.
The career of Mauricio Kubrusly
The journalist began his career at TV Globo in the 1980s, after working in the written press, radio and television. Node ‘Fantastic’ he has become one of the most recognized names among television viewers, especially in front of the set “Leave me, Brazil”.
During the 16 years on the air, the television project brought Maurício to more than 150 municipalities spread across Brazil, covering approximately 400,000 kilometers. The program’s framework showed the stories and routines of Brazilians who lived outside of major urban centers.
In December last year, the professional career of the communicator was celebrated with the release of the documentary “Kubrusly: the mystery must always paint around”, available on the Globoplay streaming platform. The production revisits his journey through archive images and testimonies from friends and professional colleagues.
The production was one of the winners of the annual prize of the Association of Art Critics of São Paulo (APCA) in 2025, highlighting the importance of journalists for communication in the country during these years.
