The judge in charge of the investigation into the management of DANA requested this Wednesday the Emergency Department to submit, within three days, the full camera recordings from the corridors of the building where the Cecopi meeting was held on the afternoon of October 29, 2024, the day of the disaster.
The car you had access to 20 minutesresponds to the request of the Acció Cultural del País Valèncià (ACPV) – which carries out the popular accusation -, and which demands that the images be available for check inputs and outputs of those who attended the meeting, both through the front door and the back door.
In her resolution, Judge Nuria Ruiz Tobarra emphasizes that the investigation into the 230 deaths “fully justifies” this requirement to determine who came at the Emergency Coordination Center (CCE). “In the decision-making process linked to the emergency, the determination of both the people who went to the CCE and those who make up the Cecopi is of particular importance,” he explains.
Thus, the order recalls that Cecopi’s composition was not fixed, but rather that “various participants joined gradually”, thus the recordings can be “determining” to rebuild precisely the sequence of decisions. “Especially if we consider that the people who were in the said place were aware of the possibility of being recorded inside the premises of the CCE; it is a public building, those who can appear will be authorities and civil servants in their professional capacity and their private life will not be violated”, affirms the judge.
The resolution also emphasizes that, given the importance of the events of October 29, it is reasonable to assume that the images were preserved for possible criminal investigation. “It cannot be considered that its continuation took place due to the relevance of what happened that day and the possible impact on subsequent criminal proceedings,” explains Ruiz Tobarra. Precisely, the head of security at the CCE declared in his testimony as a witness before the judge last week that he proposed to keep the images of his arrival. president Carlos Mazón at the Cecopi meeting on the day of the tragedy “as a precaution” and “for its relevance”.
The emergency department now has a within three days to present the full copy of the recordings before the Court of Catarroja, from 3:00 p.m. at 11:59 p.m. on October 29, 2024.
