The investigating judge on the management of DANA gave his agreement summon the driver as a witness which was used at the time president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, on the afternoon of October 29, 2024. In addition, he asked the head of security of the Presidency to identify within three days the escorts that the former head of the Consell had assigned to them on the same day, in order to be able to call them to testify once verified.
This is reflected in a decree issued this Wednesday and to which you had access 20 minutes. In this document, the judge considers it necessary to complete the information already agreed in a previous order, dated November 21, which established the summons of the driver and the bodyguards who accompanied Mazón between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on the day of the disaster, in which 230 people died in the province of Valencia.
As reported by the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) in this previous resolution, the court had first ordered identification request of these people and, once obtained, proceed to summon them as witnesses. Today, the magistrate reiterates this mandate and formally activates it, and asks the head of security in Mazón to identify the bodyguards. Once this office is completed, these escorts will be summoned.
The instructor maintains that it is “necessary” to determine whether these witnesses “could hear certain calls or the comments that follow them”, in reference to the communications maintained by Mazón and by the Minister of Justice and Interior at the time, Salomé Pradas, – investigated in this case with her former “number two”, Emilio Argüeso – during the critical hours of the emergency.
