José Antonio Kast presents himself as a favorite in the second round of elections in Chile. His career – marked by his defense of the “natural family” and his rejection of abortion even in cases of rape – has made him a reference in Latin American ultra-conservatism.
For years, the Chilean candidate has maintained close ties with the Network of Political Values, the platform promoted by Jaime Mayor Oreja and which brings together far-right leaders from different continents. This network also links him to Spanish organizations like Hazte Oír and to sectors of the radical Catholic right, in addition to placing him ideologically in the orbit of leaders like Javier Milei, Jair Bolsonaro or Donald Trump.
In this episode, Ángel Munárriz, editor-in-chief of the Spain section of EL PAÍS, analyzes with Ana Fuentes who Kast is, how he built his international influence and why his relationship with Spain is essential to understand his political project.
