According to Europa Press, José Antonio Kast’s announcement that he will renounce his membership in the Republican Party represents a turnaround that will coincide with the start of his term as president. The move aims to reinforce the centrality of national unity and integration within his government, while the President-elect called on the opposition and various sectors of society to participate in a phase based on consensus and the strengthening of institutions. Kast prioritized transversal support and effective cooperation as fundamental tools to address the economic and security crisis the country is experiencing.
Europa Press reported that in his first speech after winning the runoff, Kast framed his message on four pillars: the search for a broad consensus, the response to the economic and social crisis, the security of citizens and the restoration of institutional trust. The future president warned of the economic difficulties that Chile will face in the coming year, stressing that both the authorities and civil society must make sacrifices to find long-term solutions. Kast also expressed his determination to drive changes that bring concrete improvements to the people, while calling on all sectors to work together in the country’s governance task.
As Europa Press detailed, Kast emphasized in his speech: “This is not a personal triumph, it is not for José Antonio Kast. It is not for a party that I am proud of, of each of its activists, of the people who have accompanied us along the way. But here not one person has won, a party has not won, here Chile has won and the hope of a life without fear has won.” These words set the tone for the beginning of his term, focusing on the collective nature of the victory and the will of all citizens to govern. In addition, the leader of the Republican Party recognized the role of his rival in the second round, the representative of the left Jeannette Jara, and called on his supporters to maintain respect for those who hold different political positions.
Kast stressed that the success of his future government will depend on the ability to integrate the opposition into constructive dialogue and overcome the political divisions that deepened during the election campaign. According to Europa Press, he thanked his family, his party members and the leaders of other parties and stressed the importance of building national unity that does not exclude any sector. The President-elect emphasized that democratic coexistence requires efforts to overcome differences and establish mechanisms of intersectoral cooperation.
The new head of state placed particular emphasis on the security of citizens and placed this issue at the center of his government’s agenda. According to Europa Press, Kast reiterated the urgency of “restoring respect” for the rule of law and ensuring the efficient application of law throughout the national territory. The president-elect warned that the existence of privileges and exceptions represents an obstacle to the strengthening of the state. In addition, security effectiveness has been linked to legal compliance by citizens and officials.
In this sense, José Antonio Kast pointed out the need to restore the reputation of important institutions such as the Carabineros of Chile, the Investigative Police, the Gendarmerie and the Armed Forces. He emphasized the responsibility of these institutions to protect the population and their willingness to sacrifice for the security of the country. Europa Press explained that Kast is committed to regaining citizens’ trust in these institutions and giving back their institutional weight.
In political matters, the President-elect aims to reverse skepticism towards public activities and promote governance far removed from ideological rigidities and constraints emanating from special interests. Kast announced that the formation of the future cabinet will focus on national agreements and diversity of vision, departing from the old practice of allocating positions based on individual or corporate interests. Among the public supporters of his candidacy were Europa Press Eduardo Frei, Sebastián Piñera and Michelle Bachelet, former presidents of different political leanings. Kast interpreted this support as a sign of willingness to ensure institutional stability.
During the campaign and in meetings with communities from different regions, Kast identified addressing material and social problems that directly affect the country’s residents as a central task. According to Europa Press, the elected president emphasized his trust in the collective capacity of the Chilean population and appealed to civic responsibility to face the challenges. He called on citizens to renew their trust in the state and its procedures in response to current societal needs.
The commitment to exercise close leadership that is attentive to local needs was reiterated by Kast, who assured that he would personally address the needs of the territories and seek to govern with proximity. Europa Press reported that the call to govern on the basis of inclusion and representativeness will be at the heart of the new government, with the belief that social and political unity will form the basis for addressing economic and social emergencies.
As Europa Press reported, the president-elect’s intervention highlighted the importance of restoring citizens’ security, strengthening institutional respect and building lasting consensus as guiding elements to address the ongoing crisis. Kast confirmed that his government would maintain openness to dialogue and reject pressure from sectoral interests. She will also attach importance to the formation of a heterogeneous cabinet with the aim of responding articulately to national reality. The President-elect’s aim is to launch a phase of comprehensive cooperation that brings together different sectors to advance the consolidation of a safer and more integrated country.
