Kremlin envoy Kiril Dmitriev confirmed on Saturday (December 20, 2025) that he was on his way to Miami, where he was scheduled to meet with White House officials about the peace plan for Ukraine. Ukrainian and European representatives – from Britain, France and Germany – are in the North American city to take part in these talks. “On the way to Miami,” Dmitriev wrote on his X account.
He added in English that his trip comes at a time when “warmongers are trying by all means to undermine the US peace plan for Ukraine.” And he added a video from his previous trip in which “the light (of the sun) breaks through the storm clouds.”
Moscow doubts the Europeans’ contributions
Russia said two days ago that its representative would soon leave for Miami for consultations with the US side. “We are preparing certain contacts with our American interlocutors to obtain information about the results of the Americans’ work with Europeans and Ukrainians,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
At the same time, the Kremlin doubted the contribution that European countries could have made to Trump’s original peace plan. Russian President Vladimir Putin said the day before that he saw “certain signals” from Ukraine about its willingness to engage in dialogue. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he would not force a deal: “We can’t force Ukraine to make a deal. We can’t force Russia to make a deal. They have to want to make a deal.”
Meanwhile, US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff met this Friday in Miami with representatives of European countries, including Ukraine, to advance negotiations on the peace agreement with Russia. The participation of Russians and Europeans in these talks in Florida represents an advance compared to the previous phase, in which the Americans held separate negotiations with each side in different locations.
