Anyone who has faced the anxiety of late bills and tight income knows the difficulty of renegotiating debt. Thus, the last BBTS Talks of 2025 placed the relationship between technology, empathy and the reconstruction of financial life at the center of the debate.
With the theme “Financial education and renegotiation: technology, empathy and governance to recover credit”, the edition brought together two eminent names: economist and content creator Presley Vasconcellos, a reference in accessible communication on finance, and Rodrigo Vasconcelos, director of digital affairs of Banco do Brasil and advisor to BBTS.
At Metropoles, economist Presley Vasconcellos revealed the factors that lead the Brazilian population to lack financial control.
According to him, Brazil is already marked by a lack of control over finances. “And this is due to a deficiency in the system itself, influenced by habits such as inappropriate purchase of ‘blouses’, forgetting the card bill. All this becomes a snowball. The standardization of these problems drastically affects the country’s economy,” he said.
Brazilians attempt to live above their income, which creates an environment ripe for debt, undermining financial independence and self-esteem.

For this reason, empathetic and clear communication makes all the difference. “Brazilians tend to view debt as a seven-headed monster, which is why they can’t even talk about it around a bar table, but this taboo must be broken,” he explained.
“The individual is ashamed of the debt and thinks that he has failed in life. But, from the moment he understands that it is normal, the environment changes and becomes welcoming, because he is not the only one to experience this. Debt is nothing other than an alarm signal for a process of reorganization”, he reinforced.

Healthy financial habits
A financially literate person knows how to plan, invest and spend money according to their goals and needs. Thus, there are better conditions for dealing with information and risks that affect assets. The individual improves his quality of life, avoids debt and realizes his dreams. To do this, you must seek learning, develop discipline and adopt healthy financial habits.
Financial education without social inclusion is just coach talk. Brazilians must understand it and apply it in their daily lives.

And BBTS welcomes the customer very well. “It doesn’t make the person feel guilty, because the bank shows the end of the tunnel, because the tendency is that people don’t even want to see the extent of the ‘breakup’, which forces them to face it head-on and with the right advice,” he stressed.
At this stage, Rodrigo Vasconcelos confirms Banco do Brasil’s desire to be close and relevant to the customer at all times. Starting with the bank’s application, which includes Minhas Finances, a tool that understands the customer’s daily financial behavior, to help them migrate money to what they really need. “We realized that the customer gave us the confidence to know his data in a secure way to help him financially. This relationship makes all the difference,” he reinforces.

Since 2022 we have been working with the platform for financial solutions, adjustment and use of conscious credit. There are now over a billion BRL easily mobilized for basic and necessary sectors, such as health, food and transportation.

Inequality scenario
In 2025, debt reached almost 80% of Brazilian families, and 30.4% of them had unpaid debts. The data comes from the Survey on Debt and Consumer Defaults (Peic), from the National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC).
During the conference, the guests addressed the subject and addressed an essential point: the difference between those who are in debt and those in default, in addition to diagnosing the causes that lead to the loss of financial control.
For Presley Vasconcellos, the inequality scenario explains the Brazilian debt. However, there are two types of debt: consumer debt, intended to finance real estate, a car, etc., and loss debt, when the individual is not able to pay the debt.
“Debt is not a bad thing, because it allows a person to have access to products, such as a car, a house, a refrigerator, among others. The worst is when you have no control over your debts. The individual receives R$5,000 in salary and spends R$8,000.”

For the economist, there are simple and fundamental habits to start having financial education:
The first step is: understand the extent of the debt, precisely so as not to lose your mind;
The second step is: understand that the bill is not a sentence;
The third step is: understand that time is money;
The fourth step is: Divide the amount of salary received by hours worked and convert it into debt negotiation discount percentage at BBTS.
The expert also explained the importance of starting to understand financial education from a young age.
“The trend is that the youngest receive their first salary and convert it into consumption. But it is important to always reserve a part for the future. We cannot live as if tomorrow does not exist,” he stressed.

BBTS Talks – Conversations for a connected future
Promoted by Metropolisesin partnership with BB Tecnologia e Serviços, the December edition marks the end of the 2025 season of BBTS Talks, consolidated as a space for reflection on the major themes that cross the market and society.
By placing financial education at the center of the debate, the project ends the year discussing solutions for debt renegotiation, credit recovery and responsible use of data, increasingly strategic topics for businesses, financial institutions and the daily life of the population.
This year there was also the BBTS Connect Itinerante. To discuss more efficient and sustainable scenarios, the event brought together double Olympic champion Giovane Gávio and rural producer Camila Telles in Cuiabá, on November 19, who spoke about innovation, challenges and opportunities in the Brazilian agribusiness.
In July 2025 the first edition of BBTS Connect Itinerante 2025 took place. The meeting took place in Recife and had the theme of connections that provide value. The event highlighted essential discussions on digital transformation, sustainable innovation and, mainly, humanization in organizations.
In September, the second edition of BBTS Connect Itinerante landed in Salvador (BA) and addresses the impact of ESG on investment decisions. One of the most anticipated moments was the conference “Inquietudes para um Novo Mundo”, given by Denise Fraga, actress and communications expert.
As for the BBTS Talks, in March they saw the participation of journalist and ESG specialist Giuliana Morrone and Henrique Leite de Vasconcellos, head of sustainable business and finance at Banco do Brasil, who spoke about responsible governance, environmental protection and social inclusion for a sustainable future.
In the second semester, in August, the initiative hosted double Olympic champion Giovane Gávio for a discussion on leadership, discipline and personal development.
In September, BBTS Talks hosted Camila Achutti, founder and CEO of Mastertech and founder of SOMAS, and Marisa Reghini, VP of Business and Technology of Banco do Brasil, for an inspiring discussion on artificial intelligence.
And, in October, graphic designer and influencer Pedro Vinicio offered a reflection on “Human 5.0: the revolution that begins within us”.
In 2024, the project addressed themes related to connection and innovation. The journalist and writer Rosana Hermann, the creator and director of the MixBrasil Culture and Diversity Festival André Fischer and the consultant, professor and business strategist Eduardo Maróstica have already participated in the project.
