Lawyer João Paulo Leandro Mendes Mendonça Carréra (featured photo), 34 years old, suspected of having killed a man and burning his body in an abandoned warehouse in the rural area of Sol Nascente (DF), has already threatened and attempted to attack an ex-spouse, with whom he lived for 12 years.
In one of the many proceedings for which the lawyer responds, and for which the Metropolises had access to it, João Paulo is accused in a dispute over the division of the former couple’s property, a residence the two bought and built together.
In the document, the defense of João Paulo’s ex, to explain the situation of the property, accuses the lawyer of threats, intimidation and attempted assault, in addition to intimidation and extortion.
Behavior
In the report, the lawyer’s ex-spouse says that in the beginning, it was a very good relationship. “The situation got worse as the pandemic approached, when I decided to build a house to bring my parents to live with me, of which I was the trustee,” he said.
According to the man, that’s when things started to change. “In February 2020, there was the first epidemic, due to the construction work on the house, to the point that he spent four days there, without eating or showering, after the construction company went bankrupt,” he recalls.

Another situation that attracted attention was the amount that the lawyer convinced his ex-mother-in-law to lend for the purchase and reconstruction of the property. “He convinced my mother to lend R$450,000. I only found out when the bank manager called me, suspicious, because João wanted the money deposited into his account,” he recalls.
Speech and violence
After a while, the man renounced guardianship of his mother, which would have provoked the lawyer’s revolt. “A few days later, João arrived home very upset, saying that he needed R$17,000 to pay a lawyer who was defending him in a case and that he could not pay. He complained that I should have taken guardianship from my mother, because she would have money to lend it to him,” he commented.
“After that I started to feel quite threatened and intimidated by him, making me sleep in a separate room with the door locked, for fear he would attack me or try something worse,” he said.
After the start of the pandemic, worried about his parents’ health, the boy wanted to speed up the work and, to buy items for the property, he was convinced by his lawyer to take R$27,000 from his own father’s account.
This led to another situation, which resulted in the couple’s divorce process. “I knew I couldn’t have done that and I sold my car to replace the R$27,000. That’s when he went crazy and tried to strangle me. At that moment I decided to separate,” he recalls.
Threats
The lawyer’s ex-husband said that during the divorce proceedings, João sent messages asking to return. “But when he saw that it wouldn’t work, his tone changed and he started threatening me, by email, even telling me that he would do unpleasant things,” he stressed.
According to him, to date, João Paulo has not paid any of the R$450,000. The case regarding the couple’s property has become final and the lawyer will have to sell the property and use the amount to repay the debt with his ex, which reached R$690,000, due to the R$240,000 from the sale of an apartment, which Bruno used to invest in the house he bought.
“This year he appeared on the outskirts of where I currently live, asking the doorman about the details of my life. The doorman informed me and I saw, through the window, that he was on the outskirts of the building,” he concluded.
Satanic ritual
João Paulo Leandro Mendes Mendonça Carrera is the main suspect investigated by the Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF) in the case of the charred body found on Sunday morning (28/12), in a rural area of the Sol Nascente region (DF).
The suspect, who was taken into police custody and taken to the police station, has around thirty criminal records, according to the files consulted by investigators.
The motivation for the crime is still being determined, but one of the first lines of investigation raises the possibility of involvement in an alleged “satanic ritual”.
