THE Leap Engine arrived recently in Brazil, but it is already expected to have a significant impact on the market. This was decided by Stellantis that the Reev hybrid system will be used in cars from other brands of the group, such as Decree, Jeep, Peugeot, Citroën Or Ram.
Herlander Zolapresident of the conglomerate for Latin America, had lunch with the press last Monday (9), but avoided giving details on the subject: “We don’t know when or what models, but it’s a decision made. We will use the Leap system in other models,” declared.
Technology transfer was one of the main reasons why Stellantis entered into a partnership with the Chinese manufacturer, in which it is responsible for the presence in markets outside China. The objective of the agreement was to consolidate the brand offering with a company with strong electrification appeal.
“When we talk about cars, the notion of modernity evolves over time. A few years ago, the customer considered a connected car to be modern, with many features in this sense. Today, it has become an obligation and what the consumer understands as modern is an electric or hybrid model”, analyzes Zola.
How does the Leapmotor Reev system work?
The Reev (Range-Extended Electric Vehicle) system is the same one that equips the current C10 model. In practice, it is responsible for operating the car as an extended-range electric model. Since the heat engine only works to power the battery. In such cases, vehicle traction is provided by the electric propulsion system.
In this way, the system seeks to offer an electric driving experience, but without the anxiety of possible battery discharge without a charger nearby. In the C10, the recorded range is 950 km, according to the European WLTP standard. Other Chinese brands are expected to offer similar systems in the coming months.
Which Stellantis cars will be equipped with the system?
Despite the suspense, it is expected that the first Stellantis car to receive the Reev system will be the Jeep. Because, in the past, it was confirmed that the C10 would be assembled in the Goiana (PE) factory, where the brand’s SUVs are manufactured.
The Pernambuco unit is responsible for producing the Jeep Renegade, Compass and Commander, in addition to the Fiat Toro and Ram Rampage. So it is more likely that one of these models will soon get the hybrid variant with the Reev system.
