Left-wing demonstrators occupy Paulista Avenue, in the central region of São Paulo, this Sunday afternoon (14/12), to protest against the approval, in the Chamber of Deputies, of PL Dosimetry — a project that reduces the sentences of those convicted of attempted coup d’état. Events take place throughout the day in other capitals.
The protests were organized by the Povo Sem Medo and Popular Brazil fronts, in which the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) and the Homeless Workers Movement (MTST) participated.

With the motto “Congress, enemy of the people”, the demonstration is a reaction to the progress of the project which reduces the sentences of those arrested for the acts of January 8. Among the beneficiaries of the text is former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), sentenced to 27 years in prison by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for attempted coup d’état.
The main target of the demonstration is the President of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), who decided to lead the PL Dosimetry this week. In addition to criticizing Congress, the protests also focus on other issues, such as ending the 6×1 work schedule and fighting femicide.
The couple Cíntia Silva de Araújo, 47, and Giovanni Alves, 49, participate in the event in Paulista. “We came to defend Brazil. Let’s fight for our daughter and for everyone,” Cíntia said. The husband added: “(We are protesting) the terrible performance of Congress, which only votes in favor of their interests. »
In September, more than 40,000 people went to Avenida Paulista, according to a survey by the Political Debate Monitor of the Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning (Cebrap), a partnership between the University of São Paulo (USP) and the NGO More in Common, to protest the amnesty of those involved in the acts of January 8 and the Blindagem PEC, which had also been approved by the Chamber.
