In a decisive match, Cruzeiro came close to qualifying by opening the score 2-0. Arroyo was highlighted, but Gabigol’s error was decisive.
After Cruzeiro’s elimination from the Brazilian Cup this Sunday (14), coach Leonardo Jardim held a press conference. The Portuguese praised Raposa’s campaign, but admitted sadness at the elimination.
“Penalties don’t erase the game, everything we presented, they don’t erase the players’ campaign either. But we are certainly sad. We were here to win the Brazilian Cup and we couldn’t offer it to the fans,” said the commander.
It is worth remembering that Cruzeiro lost the first match 1-0. On the return, the celestial team won, leading 2-0, but conceded a goal from a dead ball. The decision went to penalties, Gabigol had the opportunity to put Cabuloso in the final, but stopped on Hugo Souza. Supported by 47,000 supporters, the Corinthians won the match 5-4.
Cruzeiro bids farewell to the tournament with six wins, one draw and one defeat in eight matches. 13 goals were scored and two conceded.
End of season for Cruzeiro
Eliminated in the Copa do Brasil, Cruzeiro is officially on vacation. All that remains for the club is to plan for the next season, which will be a challenge. Next year, Cabuloso will return to play in the Conmebol Libertadores. The permanence of Leonardo Jardim is uncertain, at least for the moment.
