The president of the Provincial Delegation of Cáceres, Miguel Ángel Morales, requested the resignation of the regional secretary of the PSOE, Miguel Ángel Gallardo, following the party’s results in the regional elections last Sunday, in which the socialists obtained the worst … consequence in the history of the region, with the loss of 10 seats in the Assembly of Extremadura.
Morales, who has been provincial secretary of the PSOE in Cáceres for twelve years, has already expressed his disagreement with Gallardo as socialist candidate for president of the Junta of Extremadura before the trial of Pedro Sánchez’s brother, whose trial will take place in May, in Badajoz.
“The results were an absolute disaster, a total disaster. Furthermore, no justification can be put on the table,” said Morales, who asked Gallardo to “apologize and resign.”
The president of the provincial institution said that “the PSOE of Extremadura experienced a resounding failure on the part of Miguel Ángel Gallardo”, so “the logic is to resign, go home and that the party, through the party organs, the statutes, appoints a director and begins to rebuild this party for the future”.
This is how forcefully Morales showed in his statements to the media, in which he recalled that he had already announced at the time that Gallardo “he was not the best candidate”. “The circumstances which led him to be chosen as a candidate were not optimal, his own situation, media, legal, then his empathy with the citizens, did not make him a good candidate,” he criticized.
“I believe that this is what the activists and all citizens deserved, since the citizens of Extremadura spoke out loud and clear, after resigning yesterday. Apologize to all activists, to the party, apologize and resign,” he insisted.
Regarding the call from the Regional Executive of the PSOE that Gallardo demanded this Monday, Morales said he does not know for what reason or what we want to do with it, and pleaded for Gallardo to take “responsibility” for the result, as well as “those who supported him, those who supported him.”
“This obviously involves a catharsis of the PSOE and from Extremadura, look for new people, a new manager who will bring order, who will plan for the future and who will again have the support of citizens,” Morales emphasized, adding that “there are no more hot topics” and “there is no more justification.”
He also spoke of the “very high” abstention that occurred during the elections, partly on the part of socialist voters, because “all the people are very sad”. “What is clear is that having been elected twice in the primaries as general secretary of the party did not predict or guarantee that he could be a good candidate, as has been demonstrated in fact and as some of us have said in the internal bodies of the party,” he insisted.
Regarding the future, Morales recalled that the municipal elections will take place in 2027, which is why we must start now “to seek the trust of the citizens of Extremadura, the empathy that this party needs to work daily in the institutions that we govern, the two councils, the vast majority of the municipalities of Cáceres and Badajoz, and the people need answers.”
“I appeal to the responsibility of the regional secretarywho must be left as soon as possible, so that the party can appoint a director and a new stage can begin within the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party”, he concluded.
