
The Minister of Development, Trade and Industry, Geraldo Alckmin, declared this Friday (19/12) that he hopes that the postponement of the signing of the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur will be “short-lived”.
“(About) the Mercosur-European Union agreement, we hope that it will be a short postponement, because it is an important agreement for Mercosur. We hope that the agreement will be signed as quickly as possible,” he said at a press conference.

He also said that despite tariffs imposed by United States President Donald Trump, Brazil is ending the year with record exports.
However, he stressed the need to move forward in negotiations to exempt the remaining customs duties, because the products concerned are mostly intended for industrial activities, personalized and difficult to place in other markets.
Asked about the Mexican tariffs, Alckmin said the country has two agreements with Brazil that would not be affected by the new tariffs. “Any car deal is over,” he said.
According to him, following the agreements, the impact will be $600 million, unlike the previous projection, which would be more than $1 billion.
He said the government was optimistic that by July, countries would reach an agreement to increase preferred tariff lines. “So is India, while Canada and the UAE are discussing moving further towards free trade,” he said.
