Still to the rhythm of Amaral’s “Revolution”, as almost a year ago – when she ran for the head of the Aragonese PSOE – and also in La Zaida, her hometown, Pilar Alegría presented her candidacy for the February 8 elections with a key announcement: she will have a face to face with the popular candidate, President Jorge Azcón. He will do it, he said, “so that the Aragonese see what their failed political project is.” The gathering – “the most important speech of my entire career,” she said enthusiastically – also served to convey key information about the lists, which will be announced next week.
Azcón was responsible for broadcasting on Friday, during the traditional cocktail with journalists, his wish not only for a debate with the group of spokespersons, but also for another one-on-one with the socialist candidate. And if there were doubts, Alegría took it upon herself to resolve them vehemently: “You are wrong if you think that we are not going to debate these days. We will do it with all political forces, but also face to face with the PP candidate, Jorge Azcón. of the interests of the Aragonese towards theirs and those of the PP.
The La Zaida meeting also had the interest of knowing if the questions were clarified about who Alegría would accompany in the candidacy. Among the regional deputies, several of those who should not repeat themselves have disappeared, such as Carlos Pérez Anadón, Daniel Alastuey or Elisa Sancho. There were also numerous absences from the municipal group of Zaragoza – the spokesperson, Lola Ranera, was present – and from the PSOE of Teruel, represented by only half a dozen officials. In the front row, behind the socialist candidate, two names to be highlighted as candidates: the subdelegate of the Government in Aragon, Noelia Herrero –already known–, and the provincial deputy of Caspe (Zaragoza) Abraham Martínez. On both sides, Carmen Dueso, also from Zaragoza, and Lorena Canales, from Upper Aragonese.
“Here they know me well. Here I am Pili, the daughter of Alfredo and Adoración,” Alegría said at the start of her speech, which began with emotion and then attacked the government of Jorge Azcón.
“I want you to see me as I am, without desks, without barriers. For several days I have been thinking about how to be able to convey to you everything I think. Who could tell me that after so many years, it would be difficult for me to find the words to express what I feel. I am deeply moved by the responsibility and by the dizziness that I have”, she began, before reaffirming: “I am dizzy, but without a doubt, and That’s why I’m here today.”
Alegría wanted to give a framework of simplicity to his political career, which is, he says, marked by its origins. “Those who know me know where I come from, what my roots are. I come from a simple, hardworking family. My father worked in the fields and was a factory worker; my mother was a housewife. They could not study. In my house, I only saw how people worked: always and hard. In my 48 years, I was never able to go on vacation with my parents and brothers. You worked to live, to resist, to give better opportunities to your sons and yours girls. This is the school in which I grew up, these are values that accompanied me”, explained.
Concerning his project, he did not specify much, given the timing of the pre-campaign. He recalled that “equal opportunities are not guaranteed”, that it depends on where you come from, “also in Aragon”. A phenomenon against which he claims to rebel: “I have always believed in justice, in real equality. » He stressed that he was going to “fight” for a community that “accompanies, protects, cares for and promotes”. “I want everyone to be able to live in this Aragon, so that it never becomes a privilege for a few. With humility, empathy and serenity. I want to find the Aragon of dialogue, of agreement, of coexistence,” he stressed.
At this point, he attacked Azcón for calling elections “that the Aragonese did not ask for”, but rather “in line with his and Feijóo’s agenda”. “When people vote and elect you, they are asking you to take responsibility for their problems and work to find a solution to their problems. Azcón did not want to do that,” he criticized. In this context, he stressed, he faces a campaign in which he will speak “of his inability to manage these two years, of his painful absences in the most important moments, with these floods: while the Aragonese were suffering, the president was on vacation with the official car during a festival in Galicia”.
That’s when he clarified that there would be more than one meeting between the candidates. “You are mistaken if you think that we are not going to talk or debate these days. We will do it with all the political forces, but also face to face with the candidate of the PP, Jorge Azcón. I want to explain to the people of Aragon what our political project is, a project of progress, of progress. And I want to confront them with their failed political project, which is based on budget cuts, privatization, on the subordination of the interests of the people of Aragon to theirs and those of the PP,” he said. said. abandoned
She finally alluded to her time at the Ministry of Education, during which she “learned” and also “made mistakes”, a period that ends with “pride and satisfaction” to give way to “the most important step” for her as a socialist candidate in the community: “When Aragon calls, we don’t make him wait a minute. Building the Aragon of progress and hope is my true dream”, she concluded.
