The political organization Let’s save Peru will choose its presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections through a public “coin toss” draw today, Saturday December 13, after its internal primaries ended in a tie between two formulas. The unusual tie-break mechanism marks the completion of an internal process that found no direct definition in party polls.
The procedure is carried out at 2:00 p.m The election will take place at the party headquarters at Jirón Camaná 989 in Cercado de Lima and will be conducted by the National Electoral Authority (OEN) and the Provincial Electoral Authority of Lima (OEP-Lima), in accordance with the provisions of the party’s internal regulations. The event is public and will be recorded in the official minutes.
The Save Peru primaries took place between November 30 and December 7, a period in which the militancy voted for the various presidential formulas. However, that is National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) reported that both presidential lists received the same number of valid votes in the 2025 primaries, activating the tie-breaking mechanism provided for in party regulations.

The use of the coin toss was justified by “Let’s Save Peru” as a tool to resolve equality under conditions of justice and transparency, without altering the result expressed by the militancy or reopening the internal electoral process.
The two lists that will take part in the draw will be led by:
The formula 1consisting of Antonio Ortiz Villano as presidential candidate, Jaime José Eduardo Freundt López as first vice president and Giovanna Ángela Demurtas Moya as second vice president.
The Formula 2 consists of Cosme Mariano González Fernández as presidential candidate, accompanied by Wilbert Mariano Portugal Menéndez as vice president and Katherine Giulliana Ramírez Aguirre as second vice president.

With the aim of lending legitimacy and publicity to the process, Let’s Save Peru sent invitations to representatives of the United States National Electoral Jury (JNE)The ONPE and the National Civil Registry (Reniec)as well as civil society organizations and the media. The presence of external observers is intended to increase the transparency of the process and avoid questions.
The party reported that the result of the draw would be recorded in the official minutes and subsequently communicated to the electoral system authorities as part of the formal conclusion of its internal process.
The definition of the presidential formula comes at a crucial time in the election schedule. According to current regulations, December 15th is the maximum date for the announcement of the results of the primary elections by the National Electoral Jury, while December 23rd is the deadline for the completion of the primary elections Register of Political Organizations (ROP).
In this context, the formula that wins the draw will be allowed to begin the official registration process before the electoral bodies, marking the completion of the Save Peru pre-election phase.
