Torrential rains have once again besieged the province of Valencia, which is on red alert due to a storm. The weather situation forced virtually all sports in the province to be suspended throughout Sunday. It remained to be seen whether La Liga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) would also decide to postpone Levante-Villarreal, the match of the 16th day of the First Division scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Ciutat de València, and the decision fell after midday. Yesterday, Valencia City Hall requested the suspension of this match and the competition judge finally accepted.
The RFEF, in accordance with the recommendations of the national meteorological agency (Aemet), which raised the alert to the highest level on Saturday afternoon, reported this measure in a press release. “Due to the safety recommendations due to the torrential rains expected in the Valencian Community, and after the red alert warnings from Aemet, the Judge of Professional Competitions of the RFEF resolved the postponement of the match corresponding to the 16th day of the First Division between Levante UD and Villarreal CF.”
This is not the only professional sports match that is suspended this Sunday in the city. The two matches that the two teams, women’s and men’s, of Valencia Basket were to play against Casademont Zaragoza have also been postponed. The women’s match was decided on Saturday evening and the men’s on Sunday morning after the club requested that the match be postponed following consultation with Cecopi. The ACB accepted the proposal and immediately decided on the postponement.
The Villarreal team, present in Valencia since Saturday, returned to the city of Castellón as soon as the decision was announced.
