Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has revealed he is considering whether to continue scoring goals at some point given the club’s delicate financial situation. This statement was made in an interview with the Polish channel Rymanowski Live, on YouTube.
— There was a bonus for goals scored. At that time, the club counted every euro, it was not an easy task. I even wondered if I should stop scoring goals — said the player, then emphasizing that, in training, “nothing has changed”.
Lewandowski is in his fourth season at Barcelona. In total, he scored 116 goals in 165 matches for the Catalan club. At 37, the striker is under contract until the end of the current season and has not yet defined what he will do from 2026.
— I still have time to decide. I don’t feel any kind of pressure. I don’t know which path I’m going to take. I don’t talk to the coach about the interest of other clubs. And it’s not about cutting my salary in half. The decision will depend on what the club wants to do and what I consider best for me, he explained.
The Pole added that the future will also be linked to the role he can play under Hansi Flick.
Despite admitting he is nearing the end of his career, Lewandowski assured he maintains high ambitions for the 2025/26 season.
— I want everything. Qualification for the World Cup, victory in La Liga and the Champions League. I know I’m at the end of my career, but I still have very big goals, he concluded.
