Lexus presented the LFA Concept, a model born from a study for a battery electric sports vehicle (BEV).
Born from the firm belief of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Chairman Akio Toyoda, also known as Master Driver Morizo, that certain techniques … and car manufacturing skills must be preserved and passed on to the next generation. The Lexus LFA Concept is now a BEV sports car model under development.
Following in the footsteps of the Lexus LFA, the Lexus LFA Concept embodies the brand’s “Shikinen Sengu” principle, whereby techniques and skills are passed down from car manufacturing veterans to a younger generation so that they can be learned and evolved. While pursuing both driving performance and design excellence, Lexus works as one team to create a BEV sports car that exceeds customer expectations.
Lexus intends to continue to meet the challenges of the future of automobile manufacturing, using increasingly refined and technical electrified technologies, as well as inherited skills.
A new generation BEV sports car
The Lexus LFA Concept is a next-generation sports car concept model that manifests the brand’s “Shikinen Sengu”. Focused on three key elements: a low center of gravity, low weight with high rigidity and the pursuit of aerodynamic performance, it explores a unique potential for battery electric vehicles (BEV).
In fact, Lexus started with elements such as a lightweight and very rigid all-aluminum chassis and an ideal driving position that reinforces the feeling of unity between car and driver. Lexus, a leader in vehicle electrification, has shaped a sports car suitable for the era of electrification, wishing to provide driving pleasure and demonstrate the potential of electric sports cars (EBV). Thus, this search for an optimal configuration for the BEV has given rise to a fusion of high driving performance and timeless design that will endure until the next generation.
The model name “LFA” is not linked to vehicles powered by an internal combustion engine. It symbolizes a vehicle that embodies technologies that its engineers must preserve and pass on to the next generation. From past to future: The Lexus LFA Concept is a testament to how Lexus preserves and transmits the value of sports cars and car manufacturing know-how so that they can be preserved and evolved.
Discover the immersion
Driving pleasure is a constant asset in the appeal of sports cars, even if times change. The Lexus LFA concept is designed as a car capable of enabling a deeper and purer enjoyment of this quality, immersing the driver in an unprecedented immersive experience.
This is the very essence of “Discover Immersion”.
Likewise, the feeling of immersion is born from the search to achieve a high level of fusion between aerodynamic performance and sculptural beauty. The interior, focused on an ideal driving position, has been refined down to the smallest detail. The harmony between functionality and beauty throughout the design transforms operation into an extension of the driver’s consciousness, allowing them to deeply immerse themselves in the driving experience.
Sports BEV of the future
The Lexus LFA concept seeks to balance refined style with timeless value that will prevail in the next generation. Using the all-aluminum chassis as a basis resulted in a version that maximizes sports car performance. At the same time, its low and flowing rear silhouette inherits the sculptural beauty of the Lexus LFA, displaying classic coupe proportions. Moreover, it presents a new ideal form of sports car with a universal appeal that transcends the boundaries of nations, cultures and eras, which warms the heart.
Lexus: electrical know-how
The immersive cockpit provides a perfect driving position, reinforcing the feeling of unity between car and driver to provide unprecedented driving pleasure.
The interior has been designed with simplicity, using functional components distributed around the driver and generating a sense of anticipation. Likewise, the steering wheel has been designed for sports car use, eliminating the need to change hand position when turning, while the switch layout allows for touch control for intuitive vehicle control. Together, the minimalist approach combines the appeal of mechanical design with simple interior space to create an immersive and unique environment.
