The Bolero king was found guilty after killing his ex-wife, Eliane de Grammont, in one of the country’s most high-profile feminicides.
Lindomar Castilho, nicknamed the “King of Bolero”, died this Saturday 20, at the age of 85. The message of the death was posted by the artist’s daughter, choreographer Lili De Grammont, on her social networks. The cause of death has not been announced and the wake is planned for this afternoon at Cemitério Santana, in Goiânia.
Eliane was killed by her ex-husband on stage during a performance at the Belle Époque nightclub in São Paulo. She was singing “João e Maria,” by Chico Buarque, when she was shot.
Lindomar was arrested in the act and sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was released from his sentence because he was a first-time offender and was free to await trial. The singer served almost seven years of his sentence in a closed regime and the rest in a semi-open regime. In 1996 he was already a free citizen.
The case became an important step in the fight against domestic violence in Brazil, strengthening the feminist movement with the slogan “He who loves does not kill”.
