THE Madrid Metro Line 6popularly known as “the Circular” for its semi-circular route that crosses a large part of the Spanish capital, has undergone its most ambitious transformation since its partial inauguration in 1950. Today, after months of work during which there was a partial closure that affected dozens of stations and hundreds of thousands of users, the Community of Madrid has confirmed that it will restore service to the entire line 6 this Saturday, December 20.
This culmination of the first phase of its automation, started on May 31, 2025, was not expected before the new year, more precisely for January 2026. However, the reopening of the arc between Moncloa and Legazpi, whose section had been interrupted since September 6, for a total of 105 days, was anticipated. It was the same day that it also reopened he southwest part of said line, between Méndez Álvaro and Moncloa stations.
But, since This Saturday, December 20, the circular line, line 6, returned to normal and it is fully operational for all residents of Madrid. A reopening which preludes the movements that Christmas gatherings will have, since this line is one of the most used by travelers, 116 million in 2024.
Works that renewed the roads
In this first phase of work, line 6 renewed the track platform, in addition to 86,057 linear meters of rail, which will have a useful life of more than 30 years. Furthermore, as Europa Press reports, It was made by electric welding with the aim of stopping incidents that occurred especially early in the morning with temperature changes. On the other hand, the renovation also affected the rail fixing and guiding devices.
Also on line 6 They modified the platforms at the structural level seasons. This is the previous work to subsequently implement future platform doorsthat Metro has planned around 7,000 linear lines. So, you can now see some of the prepared reinforcement pillars and temporary stepping stones.
This the second phase of the project is expected to start in January next year 2026thus taking advantage of the anticipation with which they carried out the first phase and which today allows line 6 of the Madrid metro to be fully available.
