BRASÍLIA – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) declared this Wednesday 24, in a statement broadcast on National Radio and Television, that the reduction of working hours, without a reduction in wages, is a demand that must become reality. As shown in Stage/Broadcastthe end of the 6×1 scale will be one of the government’s major themes for 2026.
“The end of the 6×1 scale, without reduction in salaries, is a demand of the people that it is up to us, representatives of the people, to listen to and transform into reality,” said the PT member.
In his speech, Lula also defended the work of the federal police, saying that the fight against factions has reached the top and that “money or influence” will not stop investigations.
Lula also said that the “right to time” is urgent and that it is unfair that a person is forced to work six days a week.
“It is not fair that a person is forced to work hard for six days and has only one day to rest his body and mind, go out with his family, take care of the house, have fun and closely monitor the growth of his children,” the president said.
As Estadão/Broadcast has shown, the government understands that reducing working hours is a program that mobilizes its electoral base and will act to ensure that this issue is voted on next year. In the second half of the year, this should be one of the slogans of the re-election campaign, in addition to the introduction of zero fares on public transport.
The government’s objective is to propose the end of the 6×1 scale and the 5×2 working day (i.e. five days of work and two days of rest per week). At the same time, Planalto will offer a 40-hour work week, a reduction from the current 44 hours provided for in the CLT.
The president welcomes the exemption from IR
In his speech, Lula also declared that he would continue to fight against what he called “the privileges of a few” to, according to him, “guarantee the rights of the greatest number.” The PT member also highlighted the income tax exemption for those who earn up to R$5,000 as one of the main victories of the federal government.
“Starting in January, with the end of IR, millions of families will have extra money every month. This will reduce their bills, warm up the economy even more and benefit the entire country,” the president said.
The president also presented positive economic figures, saying that employment with a formal contract is breaking records and that Brazil has reached the maximum number of average worker incomes and the minimum of accumulated inflation.
