The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, declared this Tuesday (9) that, despite a totally unfavorable Congress during his government, the Executive managed to approve “99%” of the proposals sent for analysis to the Legislative.
“In theory, I have a completely opposed Congress. So I have to play politics, talk, give in, convince. Here in Brazil we have approved 99% of everything the government sent to the National Congress,” he said.
The statement was made during a ceremony regulating a resolution of the National Traffic Council (Contran) that facilitates access to the National Driving License (CNH) of Brazil.
“Here in Brazil we approved 99% of everything the government sent to Congress. It wasn’t always 100% of what we wanted. It’s the battle of negotiation. If you want 100% and you get 50%, that’s a great achievement,” he said.
During the ceremony, Lula also thanked Congress for approving the income tax exemption for those earning up to R$5,000 per month and stressed that this policy “is very complicated all over the world.”
Lula also recalled that the government had created the Gás do Povo program for the benefit of 15 million people. He also said he hopes the new CNH regulations “will hold great promise for the people who need it most in the country.”
