Aides to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) say the trend is for the project that benefits those convicted of participating in coups, including former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), to be rejected in its entirety.
During a ceremony at the Palácio do Planalto, without mentioning the text approved early this Wednesday (10) by the Chamber of Deputies, Lula said he was “very calm about what is happening in Brazil.”
“This disagreement in the Chamber is characteristic of democracy, we were not used to it. This country is evolving for the better, you can be sure of that,” declared the PT deputy, without mentioning the case of deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ), forcibly removed from the presidency of the Chamber by agents of the legislative police.
This Wednesday, Minister Gleisi Hoffmann (Secretariat for Institutional Relations) questioned ministers and party leaders who question the vote of their supporters in favor of the proposal which benefits Bolsonaro.
These allies recall that the president had already expressed his opposition to the proposal in September, against a backdrop of pressure led by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP) to reduce the former president’s sentence.
At the time, the PT leadership spoke out against this proposal. This position followed the express instructions of the president. In September, Gleisi stressed that the government was opposed to this proposal, saying that this was Lula’s position.
“Our position, that of the government, of President Lula, has always been clear: we are against the amnesty, we voted against the urgent request. If there is a project of amnesty, we will vote against, as well as a project of sentence reduction. We believe that the process (against Bolsonaro) is underway STF, it was carried out in compliance with the procedural rules, there is no reason to change the process now”, declared the minister.
In favor of the veto, the president’s allies point out that the PL also benefits people convicted of other crimes, in addition to the August 1 attacks.
As shown LeafThe bill could impact other criminals, with a faster progression of the regime for those convicted of coercion in the process, arson and resistance against public officials, among other crimes, according to a technical study carried out by three parties.
Despite the president’s predisposition to a total veto, the allies recommend calm to the president. Some argue that a statement from the STF (Supreme Federal Court) should be expected regarding the project, even if the articulation has received the approval of the Court’s ministers.
In addition, the president’s interlocutors affirm that the government has achieved victories in the National Congress, with the approval of projects of interest to the Executive. Another argument is that the president does not want to contradict the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), in the middle of negotiating the name of Jorge Messias for the STF.
