President Lula (PT) said this Wednesday (10) that disagreements in the Chamber of Deputies are typical aspects of democracy, a day after the protest of deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ) against his dismissal, which resulted in his forced expulsion from the plenary of the Chamber.
“I am very calm about what is happening in Brazil. This disagreement in the House is characteristic of democracy, we were not used to it,” he said. “This country is changing for the better, you can be sure of that.”
Lula addressed mainly the mayors and governors present at the government’s announcement of the investments made within the framework of the New PAC (Growth Acceleration Program) up to this point in his mandate.
On Tuesday (9), the deputy occupied the seat of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), after discussing in the Chamber the process that requested the revocation of his mandate for hitting a right-wing activist who was persecuting him. The definition of the subjects to be voted on belongs to the college of leaders, commanded by Motta.
After Glauber announced his protest, the session was suspended and its Internet broadcast was discontinued. The legislative police were called to intervene and the parliamentarian was forcibly removed from his seat. Forced to leave the plenary, the press was unable to record images. Only parliamentarians had access to the premises and broadcast videos of the police eliminating Glauber.
Confusion over the eviction continued throughout the green room, with journalists, police and lawmakers in a tumult of shoving and assaulting. The MP then gave an interview to the press. Glauber was also the subject of criminal examination.
Along with the report presented this Wednesday, the government presented 900 proposals for 26 states relating to the Social Infrastructure Investment Fund (FIIS), totaling an investment of more than 21.8 billion reais from the federal government.
The objective of the FIIS is to make social infrastructure projects viable across the country, by investing BRL 18 billion in financing works and equipment in 2025 and an additional BRL 10 billion in 2026.
Of this total, R$18.4 billion is authorized for the health sector and R$9.7 billion for education.
In the area of health, the FIIS proposals include actions to expand and modernize the SUS, works and acquisitions of medical transport vehicles, as well as initiatives related to Agora Tem Especialistas, a federal government program that aims to reduce waiting times for appointments, examinations and surgical interventions.
