President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) signed a decree this Tuesday (23/12) that recognizes evangelical culture as a national cultural manifestation.
The signing took place during a ceremony at the Palácio do Planalto, in the presence of Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), and the first lady, Janja Lula da Silva. In a speech, the PT deputy declared that the idea for the decree had come from Senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA).
“Today, before the end of the year, your demand is satisfied because it means doing justice to the evangelical people and gospel music,” the president stressed.
He also said that this act “represents another important step towards welcoming and respecting the evangelical community and the people of Brazil.” “It is a simple act, but with a very deep symbolic force,” he stressed.
