In the middle of the Christmas celebrations, a frightening event shocked the residents and tourists of Mar de las Pampas. A glass with a human finger in it appeared in the area of 36th Street and Beach, sparking a major police response and a forensic investigation.
Sources at the 3rd police station said the discovery was related to an umbanda ritual. According to the key witness statement available to police, a woman with a bandaged hand and a bottle was seen at the scene, who was later located by officers.
When intercepted, the woman confessed that she had cut off her finger after suffering – according to her version – a domestic accident, and explained that she had decided to offer it to the sea as part of a religious practice.
The situation quickly escalated when the woman refused to carry a 45 centimeter long knife when officers arrived, forcing police to fire deterrent shots to reduce her number.
It also turned out that the protagonist of the event was no stranger to violent episodes. Known in the area as “the woman with the knives”, she was arrested days ago for rioting and is accused by the residents of Villa Gesell of being the perpetrator of several incidents that caused concern in the community.
Regardless of the history, the Public Prosecutor’s Office intervened and ordered the opening of a case under the heading of “illegal investigation”, while trying to establish the real context of the incident and the woman’s criminal responsibility.
The episode shocked a city accustomed to calm and added an unusual and disturbing chapter to a Christmas that was anything but peaceful.
