Pastor claims PL MP is target of reprisal for his work in Congress
The shepherd Silas Malafaia defended the federal deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), target of an operation by Federal police which investigates suspected discrepancies in the parliamentary quota. In videos published on social networks this Friday 19, Malafaia said that the investigation was politically motivated and called the action a persecution of the parliamentarian’s work in Congress.
“Everything is a set-up to denigrate. An incessant persecution on the right. They want to silence all those who speak out against Lula, Alexandre de Moraes or the Federal Court“, said the pastor in a video posted on his profile on X.
Political godson of Malafaia, Sóstenes was congratulated by the pastor, who considered the deputy’s position with regard to the investigation correct. “That’s how it happens, Sóstenes. Those who don’t deserve it are not afraid. They come out in public and start to collapse. Those who remain silent are the corrupt left running away,” he said.
In the same statement, Malafaia demanded investigations against allies of the federal government and cited cases involving the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), members of the president’s family Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the minister’s wife Alexander of Moraes for your million dollar contract with Banco Master. According to him, there would be unequal treatment on the part of the authorities. “With others, they destroy. With others, they protect,” he said, criticizing the Supreme Court’s decisions.

Federal police allege that public officials, commissioned employees and individuals acted in a coordinated manner to divert and conceal public resources from the parliamentary quota. According to the investigation, the scheme involved payments to a car rental company that investigators believe would operate as a shell company to return the money to the office.
During the operation, the PF seized R$430,000 in cash at an address linked to MP Sóstenes Cavalcante, in Brasilia. The parliamentarian said the value is legal and would come from the sale of a property.
Sóstenes also denied irregularities in the hiring of the car rental company that provides services to his office, one of the main focuses of the investigation.
Investigations also indicate that an advisor linked to the MP managed BRL 11 million in debts and BRL 11 million in credits, amounts considered incompatible with his income. According to the PF, he would be one of those responsible for operationalizing exceptions to the parliamentary quota.
