Pastor Silas Malafaia said Jair Bolsonaro’s choice of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro as his candidate for President of the Republic comes at a time when the former president is said to be “emotionally weakened.” In an interview with the Chronicle, the religious leader said he respected Flávio, but that he “would not swallow” the former president’s choice.
“I have nothing against Flávio. I am friends with the whole family. Flávio has his values. But here I find myself thinking: President Bolsonaro is emotionally weakened. When this PT group was condemned, no one was emotionally shaken because, when a person knows what he is doing, he does not sink into depression. Injustice leads to depression,” Malafaia said.
“I’m a psychologist, I know what I’m talking about. When a person feels wronged, it can lead to anxiety and depression. So, like Bolsonaro’s son, in a private conversation, in a moment of emotion for Bolsonaro, he goes over there and withdraws his candidacy and comes here and says: ‘My father says it’s me and it’s over’. Na-na-ni-na-no. It’s not like that. You have to understand that it’s a construction,” said the religious leader.
“It’s not a question of mental capacity. I say that an emotionally shaken person is vulnerable. He receives a visit from his son. I don’t know what he (Flávio) said to Bolsonaro. I don’t know what his conversation was. Bolsonaro’s emotional moment is fragile. Fragile because of these injustices, this cowardice, this pseudo-putschist farce, which condemns an innocent man. So emotionally, he is shocked,” he continued.
As the column shows, Malafaia defends that the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), is a candidate for the Palácio do Planalto, with former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL) as vice president. Flávio, in turn, declared that his candidacy for president was “irreversible.”
The senator’s allies celebrated the Quaest survey which showed, this Tuesday (16/12), the growth of Flávio among the candidates who intend to confront President Lula in 2026. Other presidential candidates from the conservative camp are: Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), Romeu Zema (Novo) and Ratinho Junior (PSD).
