Pastor Silas Malafaia reacted by attacking the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, after being denounced for insult, slander and defamation against the commander of the army, General Tomás Miguel Miné Paiva, in a speech given during a demonstration on Paulista Avenue in April.
The cleric denied having mentioned the general’s name in his statements during the event in favor of amnesty for those arrested for the actions of January 8 and criticized the fact that the complaint was transmitted to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the investigation into false news at the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

“I said that the four-star generals, the high command of the army, were a bunch of weak, cowardly and negligent people, because they remained silent in the face of the unjust and shameful arrest of General Braga Netto in December last year. During the demonstration, I did not mention the name of General Tomás Paiva. How is it that he denounces me as if I were mentioning his name? That is the first aberration,” he said. lamented Malafaia.
“Why did the prosecutor Paulo Gonet send me before Alexandre de Moraes? I have no prerogative of office, I have no competence before the Supreme Court. He had to send it to the first instance. Do you know what his argument is? It is that Alexandre de Moraes chairs the investigation into fake news and digital militias. What does this have to do with expressing my opinion in a public demonstration with fake news ?Absolutely nothing. This is a cowardly way of producing pure political persecution,” the pastor said.

“Paulo Gonet, you have become a doormat subservient to Alexandre de Moraes. You shame this honorable, serious institution which deserves applause, which is the federal public prosecutor. It is absurd,” attacked Malafaia.
Vacancy of the judicial power
Silas Malafaia also criticized the deadline given by Moraes to present his defense, in the middle of a judicial break, which extends until January 20.
“On the 18th, last Friday, Paulo Gonet denounced me. On the 20th, Sunday, look at the speed: Alexandre Moraes summons me, giving me 15 days to respond to this complaint. There is just one detail: from December 20 to January 20, it is the suspension of judicial power,” he declared.
“According to the internal regulations of the STF, vacations are limited to urgent measures. The STF does not deliberate on ordinary matters during vacations. This is also provided for in a resolution of the National Council of Justice. How can this guy, during vacations, order that I be summoned at a speed that never happens? It’s a shame,” he said.
Moraes is vice-president of the STF and even during vacations, he remains in office in a sort of rotation with the President of the Court, Edson Fachin.
